On his first full day in office, Donald Trump told reporters that up to 1.5 million people had attended his inauguration. Unfortunately for Mr. Trump, a picture is worth a thousand words, and the math doesn’t quite add up.
Trump wrongly claimed that the crowd on the National Mall stretched “all the way back to the Washington Monument.” Photos and video clearly showed the crowd stopping well short of the landmark.
Things got really sticky for the Trump administration, when a National Park Service employee took to Twitter to note the smaller crowd. As Trump’s inauguration ceremony got underway Friday, the employee involved in social media officially retweeted a tweet from New York Times reporter Binyamin Appelbaum (@BCAppelbaum) that pictured the crowd at Obama’s inauguration next to Friday’s gathering on the Mall.
The new administration swiftly ordered the Interior Department to shut down its official Twitter accounts “until further directed.”
It appears the president has a case of #FuzzyMath
